Story Time Fun
The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
The more things that you learn,
the more places you'll go.
~ Dr. Seuss

This piece should be familiar to anyone who has read a book to a child. I don't know about you, but both of my children have had favorite books. You know, the one you must read every night. Daughter of the year #1's was Dr. Seuss's ABC book. I think it was fate since I nearly had it memorized before I even had children as it was a popular book among my sister's children. Dad of the year and I used to recite it in the car when daughter of the year #1 got restless on long car rides. She loved it.
Daughter of the year #2's choice is Goodnight Moon. Daughter of the year #1 received the book when she was a baby and never took much to it, except for chewing. You'll see the lovely bite marks in the corner. I do remember removing it from her constantly hoping to salvage the book. It is such a favorite, she has it memorized and has begun reading it to me nightly. Now, don't get me wrong, I really do love this book. However, night after night after night of reading this book seems to have driven me to some crazy point. As daughter of the year #2 recites it in her oh so sweet little voice, I've found myself changing the words in my mind.
This one goes out to all the parents who've had to read a children's book one too many times. Enjoy!
There was an iPhone
Polly Pocket's all over the floor
And a finger painting of
A fish jumping over a bear
And there were outdated pictures of brothers and sisters
And two little flip flops
And a pair of mismatched socks
And a messy dollhouse
And a sleepy spouse
And detangling spray and a brush and a bowl full of crumbs
And a tired mommy wishing for a 99 cent gin and tonic from Thumbs
Goodnight house
Crap, I tripped on a bear
Goodnight fish jumping over the bear
Goodnight dirty kitchen
And the Polly Pockets
Goodnight brothers
Goodnight sisters
Goodnight flip flops
And goodnight mismatched socks
Goodnight pillow pet Cy
And toys grandma and grandpa got conned to buy
Goodnight messy dollhouse
Goodnight sleepy spouse
Goodnight detangling spray
And goodnight brush
Goodnight laundry
Goodnight crumbs
And goodnight to this mommy wishing for an escape to Thumbs
Goodnight sanity
Goodnight youth
Tomorrow mommy's gonna try some vermouth
