Happiest Place on Earth

When I shop, the world gets better,
and the world is better, but then it's not,
and I need to do it again.

I love to shop.  I mean, I love to shop.  I'm not sure I remember a time when I didn't love shopping.  No matter what place, what time, or what item, I wish I could shop every day.  It's probably better that I don't have that type of freedom or my bank account would be non-existent.

However, it's pretty tough to be the mom of two girls who don't so much like to shop.  I know, daughters of the year aren't that old yet, so you're probably thinking, give it time.  I would hope in time they would come out of it or I see lots of shopping by myself in my future.

This weekend, dad of the year decided to take me to one of my most favorite places to shop - Coach!  No, I do not have a closet full of designer purses and I will have it be known right now, I've never bought a designer purse that has not been used by someone else, that is, until today!  I'm fairly sure this is the point at which any of my male readers bow out from boredom and my bestest girl friends gasp in horror.

We entered the Coach store and immediately, it was like being with friends.  Leather, scarf prints, bucket, even my good friend hobo.  I had to marvel in it for a moment.  Dad of the year took to a bench and I asked daughter of the year #1 to shop with me.  If nothing, she's completely honest about what she likes and doesn't like, so I at least had that on my side.

As we made it down just one side of the store, the whining began.  Seriously?  We hadn't even made it half way through the store and daughter of the year #1 was complaining about her very sudden foot ache that would prevent her from walking with me.  So, I started slinging purses over my shoulder to get her opinion.  This would have to be quick and I don't usually make these decisions quickly.  Oh the pressure!

As I tossed a cute hobo over my shoulder the sales clerk was all too happy to tell me was an additional 50% off, daughter of the year #1 leaned in and asked in her most annoyed of voices very loudly, "Mom, what is this place?"

Oh no she didn't.  Now, I may not have taught her how to effectively butter bread, or how to tie a scarf, or even which socks are best for which outfit, but she had to know where we were at!  I think I heard the woman beside me audibly gasp.  Yes, the one whose toddler was carrying a Coach wristlet.  So, as any mom of the year would, I responded with complete and total sarcasm, the type people who don't know me well don't quite get.

"Why honey, we're in the happiest place on earth," I replied.

That seemed to make the women around me laugh.  Daughter of the year #1 stomped off to find dad of the year's iPhone to play with as the sales girl leaned in.  She whispered close to me, "The happiest place on earth is actually Disney."

Glad she cleared that up for me.
