Weddings...What a Thriller!

When you look at your life, the greatest
happinesses are family happinesses.

This weekend, our family celebrated the wedding of nephew of the year #1.  We are so happy to have welcomed niece-in-law of the year to our family.  She fits right in amongst our crazy, loud, emotional, loving family.  All I can say is this sappy mom of the year had one heck of a time keeping a dry eye at this wedding.  Oy!

Dad of the year and I entered the weekend with a bit of bad news - learning our beloved family dog has cancer.  While this post is not going to be about the sadness we've gone back and forth with this weekend, it is about how this coming together with family could remind me that these bonds are ones I truly treasure.  They are the heart and soul of what is important to me.  For this family and this family only could make me laugh, cry, scream and love in a way that takes all of my being.  Leaving me tired, happy, but even more, fulfilled.

Watching nephew of the year #1 enter into his married life brought back many of my own wedding day memories.  It truly is a journey of sickness and health, better or worse, richer or poorer.  But I can't imagine walking this path with anyone but dad of the year.

As the weekend progressed, we heard talk of a Thriller rendition being planned for the wedding reception.  Rumor?  Possibly.  Yet I was sure whatever was in store would bring with it a great laugh.  Because, above all, that is what this family does for me the best.

What I was not prepared for was to laugh so hard I nearly passed out and my sides cramped from the totally hilarity of what played out before me.  Now, I rarely post photos of people on my blog but I just couldn't resist this one!  At the end of this Thriller "remake", we found my brother-in-law and his brother acting like the zombie-like creatures that come out of the graveyard in the Michael Jackson video.  I had no problem snapping photo after photo after photo at the front of the dance floor.

Above all, it was a great reminder of what is important - the love of family.  As nephew of the year #1 and his new wife enter into their lives as man and wife, they will be surrounded by this same crazy family.  It's certainly worth every laugh!
