Easy Bake = Gag
Madison received what I thought was an amazing gift of Easy Bake this year. And not the easy bake where you cook under a light bulb, but rather with your microwave. She loves helping in the kitchen so I thought this was a great way for her to be involved.
We cracked open the box with amazing curiosity and decided what to bake first. With chocolate chip cookies being daddy's favorite, that was what was settled on first. After adding water, carefully reading instructions, we had five perfectly shaped cookies about the size of a quarter. 30 seconds later, voila! Cookies! Daddy got to eat the first one and put on what I would call a great game face and pretended to enjoy every bite. When it was my turn I honestly thought, how bad can it be? Well....maybe if I'd had a fresh cup of coffee in front of me, it would have been different but oddly, I gagged. It was somewhat like eating a flattened, dried out piece of dirt with a smattering of chocolate in it. Let's just say it wasn't the most amazing cookie in the world, but Maddie had made it herself in her little plastic easy bake tray in the microwave. Miraculous!
So, if you are pondering the microwave easy bake, I do have positive news. The cakes are actually quite good and the fondant, while a shade of pink that could burn right through my retina, make for some amazing looking little cakes. I felt so victorious with my little baker as we mixed and rolled and pressed and had fun. We were practically a mother/daughter version of Cake Boss. That is until she said, "Mommy, what's fondue?"
