Listening Ears

--------------------------------------------------
She's back! No, I'm not talking about mom of the year, I'm talking about my dear daughter of the year #1. Huh? You are saying. It's OK. Here's the deal folks. I've been asked to work with another blog to post my endless pursuit for mom of the year there, so in true mom of the year fashion, I'm changing names to protect the innocent. But also to save me time from writing a blog twice. I guess it was time for me to do that anyway.
Now, back to my dear daughter of the year #1. Oh, I love her so! She knows me better than most anyone. She can even order my drink at Starbucks and lovingly corrects dad of the year if he doesn't order right. She knows my favorite shows and screamed this morning to allow daddy to let her watch Dance Moms on the DVR. Yep, that's my girl.
However, she may know me a little too well. While making dinner last night, I cracked open a can of my favorite tea, Tradewinds Sweet Tea. Nothing better in the day than a little Tradewinds over ice in my favorite blue cup. When I came into the dining room to sit down to eat, daughter of the year asks what I'm drinking?
"Tea," I reply, stopping myself from following up with, duh!
"Oh," she laughs. Huh, I think. "I thought you were having wine!" Super huh?
"Why did you think that?" I ask.
"Cause the sound of you opening that can of tea kinda sounded like when you open a bottle of wine. You know, when the cork comes out," she concludes.
You know what, she was right. It did happen to have a similar sound. As I began to eat dinner, I pondered briefly if I should be concerned that my daughter knows the sound of a popping cork all too well. Was this a result of all those talks about using your listening ears? Then I remembered I need to add wine to the list of groceries we are out of.
